‘Tis the season for gift giving, but rather than another holiday sweater or monogrammed mug, our engineering team opted to put the love into our December 2022 product launch. (We’ll thank them for you…)

Here’s what’s new for the month:

1. Reminder emails with webhook enhancements: Now, you can set up and configure customer notifications for renewal reminders to comply with mandates that vary between card brands, states, and regions. We’ve added separate templates for Bill Date and Sub Term renewals—for emails and webhooks—so that you can send both, instead of having to choose.

2. Custom fields on plans: Custom fields are a popular feature among Recurly customers—they’re already available for Subscriptions, Items, and Accounts. In this release, we’ve added custom fields to Plans, to round out this functionality. Add custom plan fields based on customer attributes, such as locale, marketing channel, etc. to help you best target your ideal customers with the right plan.

3. Usage-based add-on calculation methods: This is another feature that is best explained with an example. Santa’s Photo Platform wants the option to bill its customers in two ways. Option one is to charge usage-based add-ons by calculating the sum of all recorded quantities throughout a billing period (every photo the customer uploaded to the platform). Option two is to charge for the last quantity recorded within the billing period (the number of photos remaining on the platform at the end of the billing period).

This new calculation type will particularly benefit merchants who charge for digital goods, such as the consumption of data or the storage of files. Anything for Santa, right?

If you have questions about any of the new features, contact us at product-management@recurly.com and we’ll get you the answers you need.

From all of us at Recurly, we wish you a wonderful holiday season and a successful and prosperous new year.
