Every customer payment we take in over at Bizness Apps is paid using Recurly, so it’s safe to say that Recurly is kind of important to us.
Okay, we lied. Recurly is absolutely critical to us. Without Recurly, we’d be dealing with paper checks and billing through the mail. It’s not a world we want to know anything about.
But picking the right recurring billing provider, however, or even deciding whether to use recurring billing at all, is something every business should put some thought into. Below, we’ll share why we decided to use recurring billing and why Recurly is the best option out there for us.
For starters, we think the question should be framed as, “Is there any reason not to use electronic billing?” It’s more convenient, cost-effective, and trackable than the alternative, so we think it’s a no-brainer if it works for your business. We realize, however, that it’s not right for some companies. If your core customers are not tech-savvy or comfortable with plugging their credit card info into a website, for example, e-billing isn’t going to work.
For the rest of us, it’s a Godsend.
Once you’ve decided to do e-billing, you have a choice to make: 1) handle it in-house, or 2) outsource it? Well, you could build your own system, if you’re up to it. But while it would be totally customized, it could be quite costly to create and then you’d be stuck maintaining it going forward. For us, it was much more efficient to have a specialized provider handle it all for us.
So off we went to Google, hunting for a partner who wanted the job.
Recurly caught our eye at first simply because the sign-up pages look nice (never underestimate the power of a solid first impression). But when we looked under the hood, we were equally impressed. Here’s what our experience has taught us about Recurly:
The API is easy to work with
Recurly’s robust API took little effort to integrate into our platform. Once we were configured, that was pretty much it.
Customer support is outstanding
When we have questions or issues, the Recurly team is quick to respond, and always helpful. Payment processing is a mission-critical function, and the Recurly folks understand that even a little hiccup is a major cause for concern. If we’ve got a problem, they want it fixed just about as badly as we do.
Dunning (collection) emails are perfect
If clients need to update their payment info, Recurly has a great system in place to prompt them to resolve issues. Recurly’s dunning system helps us keep payments from all clients on track with a minimum of delay.
The metrics are very useful
With Recurly, we can learn pretty much anything we want to know about our customer payment data. This allows us to continually improve and stabilize the customer payment experience.
Data is secure
Recurly is PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant, so we don’t have to worry about data being compromised.
As a result of all these benefits, we’re able to handle all payment issues smoothly and maximize customer retention. Recurly keeps the lifeblood of our business flowing, and lets us focus on doing what we do, without having to worry about payment problems.
