Heroku is a cloud application platform as a service (PaaS) company, which provides provisionless deployment, management, and operation of Ruby web applications.

Subscription business models have grown in popularity with the explosion of mobile and cloud-based application offerings. Since its launch in January of 2010, Recurly’s service has become a popular solution for SaaS, Web 2.0, Social and Mobile application developers seeking to outsource the painful billing function. Heroku customers can launch subscription-based applications with the Recurly Add-On in just hours if they already have a supported PayPal or payment gateway account. The benefit to application developers is that they maintain a single billing relationship with Heroku, and access to customer account information in Recurly is available via single sign-on from Heroku. All revenue generated from the sale of subscriptions to a developer’s application or service is deposited directly into the developer’s merchant account.
